Man arrested in connection with vehicle breaks in Wareham

Posted on March 29, 2012

During the morning hours of Sunday, March 25, 2012, officers of the Wareham Police Department conducted an investigation into the report of several motor vehicle break and entering incidents on Rte. 6&28, in which jewelry, electronics, and personal items, were stolen from locked vehicles after the windows were smashed out.

During the investigation by Officer James White, personal property of a suspect was noticed to have been left inside one of the vehicles that had been entered. Further investigation of the personal property led to the residence of a suspect, identified as 19 year old John Hailey of #18 Catherine Court, which is located in a mobile home park just off of Rte 6&28 in the area of Ella’s Restaurant, where three of the motor vehicle breaks had been reported during the previous night.

The investigation involving Mr. Hailey at 18 Catherine Court led to the recovery of property with a total value of over $3000, which had been stolen from at 6 victims that are known at this time. John Hailey was arrested at his residence and charged with 6 counts of B&E into a Motor Vehicle (felony), 6 counts of Destruction of Personal Property Over $250, and 5 counts of Larceny Over $250. Mr. Hailey was also charged with Possession of a Burglarious Instrument when a hammer/hatchet was located at the residence. Mr. Hailey was arraigned on the charges at Wareham Fourth District Court on Monday, March 26, 2012.

Two Arrested in B&E to a residence

Posted on March 8, 2012

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at approximately 5:00 pm, officers of the Wareham Police Department responded to a residence on Restful Lane regarding a reported break and entering incident in progress. The resident of the address reported that she arrived home to find an unknown vehicle occupied by an unknown female, parked in front of the house. Upon noticing the resident, the unknown female, later identified as 21 year old Catherine McAlpine of Sandwich, MA, honked the horn and quickly left the area. As the vehicle was leaving the area, a male ran out of the residence carrying a bag containing several unknown items.

After receiving preliminary information, officers conducted an area search for the suspects and the vehicle. Within minutes, the vehicle, occupied by Ms. McAlpine, was located within a short distance from the victim’s home. During the investigation of the female’s involvement in the incident, a male identified as 21-year-old Daniel Beal of Canton, MA, was noticed to be walking in the area. Continued investigation with regard to Mr. Beal’s involvement of the incident revealed that he had left the bag that he was carrying in a nearby playground. The bag was located and determined to contain several items stolen from the residence on Restful Lane.

Catherine McAlpine and Daniel Beal were both placed under arrest and charged with B&E Daytime, Larceny Over $250, and Receiving Stolen Property. Ms. McAlpine and Mr. Beal are scheduled to be arraigned at the Wareham District Court on Wednesday, March 8, 2012.

Chief Richard Stanley praised the investigative skills of the responding officers and Detective Michael Smith, who were able apprehend two B&E suspects within minutes of committing the crime and recover the stolen property.

Arrested:

1.      Catherine McAlpine -  5 Stonefield Drive  East Sandwich, MA
