According to police, the foster mother tried fighting off Lockwood, engaging  in a tug of war with him for custody of Patrick, but was unsuccessful. Patrick  is an eight-year-old Asian male named My Tri “Patrick” Nguyen. He was last seen  wearing blue jean shorts and a neon yellow T-shirt.

Sarah is a ten-year-old Asian female named Tien Nhu My “Sarah” Nguyen. She  was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a blue and purple T-shirt with a  mermaid on the front, police say.

Police say Lockwood drove off in a brown, 2005 BMW 525i, Massachusetts  registration 478RF8.

Police End Standoff Peacefully

Posted on April 2, 2013

On Monday, April 1, 2013 at approximately 2:20 pm, officers of the Wareham Police Department responded to #4B Ladd Ave. off Sandwich Rd. regarding a custody issue involving a 19 month old child and the child’s father, 33 year old Michael Mendes, who stated to family members that he intended to harm himself with a handgun.

Officers immediately formed a perimeter at the residence and briefly spoke with Mr. Mendes, who eventually put the child outside the door and barricaded himself in the home. The child was quickly and safely taken from the area. Officers then began to speak with Mr. Mendes by telephone, during which time he refused to come out of the house, stated he possessed weapons, and indicated his desire to be harmed by police officers.

The Mass State Police Special Tactical Operations (STOP Team) was notified and responded to the scene. At approximately 6:00 pm, after repeated efforts to have Mr. Mendes exit the home peacefully and cooperatively, gas cartridges were deployed into the residence. Within minutes, Mr. Mendes exited the home and was secured without incident. He was then transported to Tobey Hospital to be evaluated.

Investigation of the incident is ongoing, and criminal charges have yet to be applied to Mr. Mendes regarding his actions during the incident.

Chief Richard Stanley praised the actions and professionalism of the responding Wareham Police Department Officers and Massachusetts State Troopers, whose combined efforts and expertise led to a safe conclusion of the incident.
