On Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at approximately 9:00 pm, patrol officers of the Wareham Police Department responded to the Great Neck Road area for a reported suspicious motor vehicle in a residential driveway. Upon arrival, responding officers noticed the described vehicle leaving the area and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Depot Street. The vehicle stopped when pulled over by Officer Dean Decas, but then left the scene at a high rate of speed toward Glen Charlie Rd., where it turned onto Rte. 25 eastbound toward Bourne.
While traveling on Rte. 25 eastbound in the area of the Plymouth town line, the suspect vehicle lost control and struck a guardrail and light post before coming to a stop. The driver of the vehicle, 17 year old Quintin Costa of New Bedford, then fled on foot, as his passenger, 19 year old Preston Pedrosa of New Bedford, remained in the vehicle and complained of back pain. Mr. Pedrosa was treated at the scene by Plymouth Fire Dept. and EMS personnel before being transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
With the assistance of the Bourne Police Department and Mass. State Police, Mr. Costa was located as he attempted to cross Rte. 25 a short distance from where he fled from the vehicle. Mr. Costa, who was not injured, was placed under arrest and transported to the Wareham Police Department.
Quintin Costa has been charged with various motor vehicle offenses, including Failure to Stop for Police, Speeding, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He will be arraigned at Wareham 4th District Court on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Passenger Preston Pedrosa will not face criminal charges as a result of this incident.
