WAREHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN DEA NATIONAL DRUG TAKE-BACK INITIATIVE
DEA and local police to offer prescription drug disposal
The Wareham Police Department will conduct a prescription drug take-back and disposal day as part of a nationwide initiative by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Wareham Fire Department, located at 273 Main Street. Wareham and surrounding area town residents are encouraged to gather expired, unused and unneeded medications, which will be collected and safely disposed of by the DEA at no cost to the local community.
Acting Chief Kevin Walsh urges Wareham residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs. “Prescription drugs are currently abused by people in greater numbers than cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens and inhalants combined. In most cases, people are able to obtain these drugs from their homes, or from a friend’s home,” Acting Chief Walsh said, as he reiterated that the Wareham Police Department is committed to the effort in helping remove potentially dangerous drugs from area homes and dispose of them legally and safely.
The prescription drug disposal is completely anonymous and free of charge for area residents. Please note that syringes, needles, medical devices, thermometers, and IV bags cannot be accepted.
