On Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at approximately 1:00 am, a Wareham Police Department Bike Officer was approached by a female, who reported being the victim of domestic assault and battery during an argument with her boyfriend at her nearby Onset residence. Officers responded to the address and located the involved male, who was hiding from officers inside the apartment, then provided false information to officers regarding his identity. During conversation with the male, he became combative and had to be restrained and subdued by officers at the scene while being placed under arrest for Assault & Battery.
Investigation regarding the identity of the involved male revealed his true identity as 42 year old Shawn Poppish of #8 Union Ave. Onset, MA. In addition to three outstanding arrest warrants in Massachusetts, Mr. Poppish also had four warrants for his arrest that were issued in Maine. The warrants pertained to various motor vehicle and drug charges incurred by Mr. Poppish in both states.
Mr. Poppish was arraigned today at Wareham District Court on the following charges stemming from the domestic assault incident: Domestic Assault & Battery, Malicious Destruction of Property, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer (2cts), Furnishing a False Name to a Police Officer, and Fugitive from Justice. Arrangements will be made with courts in Massachusetts and Maine regarding the outstanding warrants.
