During separate and unrelated incidents on Friday, January 4, 2013 and Sunday, January 6, 2013, officers of the Wareham Police Department removed a handgun, assault weapon, shotgun, and ammunition from two males, who were arrested and charged with various weapons related charges.
During a motor vehicle stop for speeding on Friday night at approximately 11:00 pm on Rte 6&28 in the area of Hong Kong Island, Officers James White and Daniel Henderson noticed a handgun under the front seat and within reach of a vehicle driven by 22 year old Brockton resident Donta Hood and his passenger, 44 year old John Thomas of Wareham. During this incident, officers recovered a loaded .25 caliber handgun. Both males were arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Loaded Firearm, while Mr. Thomas was also charged with violating the firearms laws with a prior violent or drug crime on his criminal record after being arrested for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (pool cue) in 1996. Both parties were arraigned this morning at the Wareham District Court.
On Sunday, January 6, 2013 at approximately 3:00 pm, officers responded to a reported domestic assault incident between a father and his 20-year-old daughter at 41 Lakeshore Drive in Wareham. After the father, 61-year-old John Rams Sr. was placed under arrest for the physical assault of his daughter, further investigation by Officer Blaise Lalli and Detective Michael Smith led to a search warrant for the home and the discovery of an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun, and over a hundred rounds of assorted ammunition. The weapons were not involved in the domestic assault.
John Rams Sr. was charged with Assault & Battery, Possession of a Firearm without and FID Card, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm without an FID Card, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. He was arraigned on the charges at the Wareham District Court on Monday morning.
Chief Richard Stanley praised the alertness and investigative efforts of the officers and detectives involved in the weekend incidents, during which weapons and ammunition were removed from the streets of Wareham and arrests were made.
