A horse stabled in the Town of Rochester has been confirmed with EEE infection today by the State Laboratory Institute. The animal became ill and was euthanized on September 6, 2012. This raises the risk for EEE in Rochester to critical and to high in the neighboring towns of Freetown, Acushnet, Marion and Wareham. Middleboro, Lakeville and Mattapoisett were already considered to be at high risk. High and critical risk levels include a recommendation to consider rescheduling of outdoor evening events to avoid the peak mosquito activity period dusk and dawn.
