As a direct result of an anonymous tip via the Wareham Police Department’s Text-A-Tip program, a 35 year old male was arrested in Pawtucket, RI, due to an outstanding warrant regarding a charge of Disseminating Obscene Matter (pornography) to a Minor Child, which originated from a 2010 incident that occurred in Wareham, MA. Jason Irving of 202 Columbus Ave. in Pawtucket, RI was arrested in Rhode Island and waived extradition to Massachusetts at the Providence 6th District Court on March 29, 2012. An anonymous tipster provided key information as to the whereabouts of Mr. Irving, directly leading to his arrest as a fugitive from justice in Rhode Island.
In June of 2010, officers of the Wareham Police Department came upon Jason Irving, who was in a parked vehicle in a lot off of Charge Pond Rd. at approximately 2:00 am. During investigation of Mr. Irving, officers discovered that he had intended to meet with a juvenile aged female that he had reportedly met online. It was further discovered that material of a sexual nature had been distributed to the minor child during cell phone contact. Further investigation of the matter led to the identification of the juvenile female and the eventual arrest warrant for Mr. Irving, who was charged with Disseminating Obscene Matter to a Minor. Jason Irving was arraigned at the Wareham Fourth District Court, and court dates will be scheduled.
The Wareham Police Department has been very pleased with the results of the Text-A-Tip program, which allows tipsters to provide information via the internet and cell phone texting, while remaining completely anonymous. Anyone with information that may aid the Wareham Police Department and the citizens of Wareham by reporting or preventing crime can use the program by accessing www.tipsoftonline.com, www.crimereports.com, or by accessing the Wareham Police Department web site. To send a tip from a mobile phone, enter 274637 in the “To” block, and “WAREHAMPD,” followed by the message.
In this case, the tip provided by a Text-A-Tip user removed a potentially dangerous criminal from the street in another state to face charges stemming from illegal interaction with a juvenile in Wareham. The Wareham Police Department looks forward to continued future success with the Tex-A-Tip program.
