On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at approximately 11:00 pm, officers of this department responded to an apartment at #815 Main St. regarding a reported stabbing incident. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim, a 32-year-old female resident of the apartment, who reported that she had been stabbed with a knife once in the abdomen area by her boyfriend during a domestic argument. The female was treated by officers at the scene and EMS personnel, while other police units searched the area for the boyfriend, who left the scene in a vehicle before the arrival of officers.
Within minutes, Officer Dean Decas noticed the suspect, stated to be 27-year-old Frank Villagran of Providence, RI, operating a dark colored Nissan Maxima, as he was attempting to enter onto Rte. 195 westbound from Rte. 28. The vehicle was stopped, but abruptly sped off after a brief conversation with Officer Decas, headed westbound toward New Bedford. Wareham units pursued the vehicle until New Bedford officers became involved after the suspect fled from the vehicle in the area of the Rte. 18 exit.
Although the suspect has not been apprehended, a warrant has been applied for the arrest of Frank Villagran of #227 Sackett St. in Providence, RI. Mr. Villagran has been charged with Attempted Murder, Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), along with various motor vehicle offenses.
The female victim was treated at Tobey Hospital in Wareham before being transported to a Boston hospital by a Med-Flight helicopter for further treatment. At this time, the victim is listed as being in stable condition with a knife wound that has been determined to be non-life threatening at this time.
The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the Wareham Police Department Detective Division and is currently ongoing. Any information updates with regard to this incident will be forwarded in a future press release.
