On Sunday, November 30, 2014, at approximately 12:01 am, Wareham Police Department, Wareham Fire Department, and Wareham EMS personnel responded to the report of a serious motor vehicle accident just north of the YMCA facility on Charge Pond Road. Upon arrival at the scene, officers noticed two extensively damaged vehicles, as one of the vehicles was overturned and on its roof, and the other had extensive front end damage.
Upon immediately assessing injuries at the scene, it was noticed that the driver of one of the vehicles, 45 year old Raymond Cardoza Jr. of Onset, MA was deceased. The other driver, 35 year old Richard Hollis of Wareham, was noticed to have a serious leg and hip injury and was transported by Wareham EMS directly to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center. There were no other occupants in each of the vehicles.
Although investigation of the accident is ongoing, preliminary indications show the vehicle driven by Mr. Cardoza was traveling south on Charge Pond Rd., while the vehicle driven by Mr. Hollis was traveling north when the collision occurred. The vehicle driven by Mr. Cardoza was on its roof upon arrival of emergency personnel.
The accident is being investigated by the Wareham Police Department and the Mass. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Further information is limited, as the investigation is ongoing.
