On Saturday, December 31st at approximately 10:30 pm, Wareham PD officers, along with Onset Fire Department, Wareham EMS, and Wareham Harbormaster Dept. personnel responded to the area of Locust St. and Upland Rd. in Onset for the report of a motor vehicle accident with the involved vehicle submerged approximately 50-75 feet in Broad Cove.
Upon arrival, emergency responders determined the vehicle was occupied by two people who were now on the shore. The male and female occupants were then transported to Tobey Hospital due to possible weather and water exposure issues. A ten-pack of vodka nip bottles with 6 bottles remaining was recovered from the immediate area of the male and female.
During investigation of the incident, the occupants, both of whom appeared intoxicated, denied operating the vehicle. Further investigation led to the determination that the female, 22 year old Meghan Gagnon of Plympton, MA, was the operator and was headed with her male companion to a friend’s house in the thickly settled neighborhood, when she lost control of the vehicle and drove into the shallow water.
Meghan Gagnon has been charged with OUI Liquor, and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. She will receive a summons to appear at Wareham District Court regarding the criminal charges.
