On Monday, September 26, 2016 at approximately 3:00 am, WPD officers responded to the Locust St. area in Onset regarding a reported B&E into a motor vehicle in progress. It was further reported that a male victim was chasing two male suspects on foot toward Onset Avenue. The victim later reported noticing the interior light of his vehicle on, which prompted him to check the situation, at which time two males fled from the vehicle parked in the driveway.
During a search of the area, the victim and responding officers located the two males who ran from Locust St. and recovered property stolen from the vehicle. The males were identified as 26 year old Michael Thompson and 30 year old Matthew Dillon-Murdock, both of Onset, MA.
Both males were charged with B&E into a Motor Vehicle and Larceny Under $250. They will be arraigned on the charges today at Wareham District Court. In addition to the criminal charge, Michael Thompson was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a previous B&E into a motor vehicle incident that occurred just weeks ago. Matthew Dillon-Murdock was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Braintree District Court in 2007.
During the arrest, the males were found to be in possession of several items that have yet to be accounted for. Residents in the Point Independence area, in particular the Oneset Heights area who may have noticed items missing from their vehicles are urged to call WPD detectives at (508) 295-1206 regarding possible identification of items.
Chief Kevin Walsh wanted to take this time to urge all residents to always lock their vehicles, especially during the overnight hours, as thieves prey on the unlocked vehicles in search of items that can be quickly concealed and carried away.
