On Monday, May 11, 2015 at approximately 11:45 am, officers of the Wareham Police Department were approached by a female who reported she had just been robbed at knifepoint in the area of Tobey Hospital by a male she met a few days prior to this date.
The female stated she made arrangements to meet with the male in the area of the hospital and provide him with transportation. According to the victim, the male pulled out a knife and demanded cash from her wallet as the vehicle pulled onto High Street. The male then exited the vehicle and the victim female drove from the scene until she located officers in the area. The female was not harmed during the incident.
As officers and detectives searched the area for the suspect, the victim was contacted by the suspect, who made told her the incident was a “misunderstanding” and that he would arrange for her money to be returned by a female friend at a pre-arranged location.
Based on the known first name and physical description of the suspect as provided by the victim, officers and detectives were able to locate and arrest 41 year old David “DJ” Johnson of Wareham, who possessed a knife at the time of his arrest. Mr. Johnson was charged with Armed Robbery.
As Mr. Johnson was being placed under arrest, detectives and officers met with a female, later identified as 29 year old Nichole Card, who made arrangements with Mr. Johnson and the victim to return the stolen cash. Ms. Card was placed under arrest and charged with Accessory After the Fact and Receiving Stolen Property when she arrived at the pre-arranged location and attempted to return the victim’s money.
David “DJ” Johnson and Nichole Card were both arraigned on the charges at Wareham District Court on Monday afternoon.
Chief Kevin D. Walsh stressed that this incident was not a “random robbery,” as the victim and the suspects were known to each other in some degree. Chief Walsh also praised the cooperative and combined efforts of patrol officers and detectives, which led to the arr ests of the suspects within a very short time of the incident occurring.
