On Friday, September 25, 2015 at approximately 10:30 pm, WPD patrol officers responded to Apartment 11E at the Brandy Hill
Apartments complex regarding a reported home invasion incident involving a lone male who reportedly entered the apartment and demanded cash and other items from the three adult occupants while holding a sawed off shotgun. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
During the incident, two male occupants of the apartment wrestled the weapon away from the intruder, who was not masked and was known to all three victims by his first name only. After the brief struggle and not receiving money or other items, the intruder ran from the complex. When the intruder left the building, it was noticed that the sawed off shotgun was not loaded. The weapon was recovered at the scene as evidence.
Within 2 hours, WPD officers and detectives located the suspect male at #9 (rear) Tyler Ave. in East Wareham (current residence), where he was identified as 26 year old former Rhode Island resident John Peckham and arrested without incident.
John Peckham was charged with Armed Home Invasion, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Sawed Off Shotgun, and Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number. Mr. Peckham was also arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Fall River District Court for an unrelated prior offense. He will be arraigned on the charges at Wareham District Court on Monday, September 28, 2015.
