Print an Application for New/Renewal of a Firearms Identification Card or License to Carry

Firearms Licensing Procedures

1.         Applicants for Firearms Licenses must complete a Firearms License Application which may be picked up at the Wareham Police Department or located on our website at www.warehampolice.com.  Ensure that all questions are answered completely and truthfully and the writing is legible. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

2.         Take Note: Application Question #10: "Have you ever appeared in any criminal court as a defendant for any criminal offense or criminal traffic offense (excluding non-criminal traffic offenses)?" The key word is "appeared" rather than "arrested." Having been charged and convicted of a crime does not necessarily prohibit you from getting an FID or LTC. Not answering truthfully does. Understand that "ever appeared" includes all adult and juvenile appearances. It does not matter if you were found not guilty, or if the charges were dismissed, or if you received a continuance without a finding--you still have to answer "yes" to the question if you ever appeared in criminal court. If you do not answer truthfully, we will find out, no matter how long ago. If you have a sealed record, you also have to indicate this; we are notified of disqualifiers even from sealed records.

3.         First time applicants must submit a copy of their Hunter Safety or Firearms Safety Certificate. The Wareham Police Department schedules a monthly Firearms Safety Course free of charge for applicants. The date, time and location of the monthly class is posted our website.

4.         Contact the Wareham Police Department Communications Center at 508-295-1212 or Detective Sergeant Douglas Jacinto at 508-295-1206 Ext. 234 or Detective Michael Smith at 508-295-1206 Ext. 236 to schedule an appointment for processing.

5.         At the time of processing, applicants are required to bring a check or money order payable to the Town of Wareham for the fee.

New or Renewal Licenses to Carry Firearms or FID Cards -$100.00

New FID Restricted (Chemical Spray)    $25.00

Renewal of Restricted FID or applicants over 70 years of age – No Fee

6.        All Applicants will have prints and photos taken at the time of processing.
