Wareham Man Arrested for Fifth Offense OUI and Operating After Revocation.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Wareham Police Department received an anonymous call regarding an intoxicated driver on the Cranberry Highway in the East Wareham area. During a search of the area, officers located the vehicle in the area of Tyler Ave., where observations of erratic operation were made.

During investigation of the incident, officers noticed that the operator, 48 year old Wareham resident Michael Wurtzburger, appeared to be intoxicated. After failing a series of sobriety tests, Mr. Wurtzburger was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

A computer check of RMV records revealed that the operator, 48 year old Michael Wurtzburger of Wareham, MA, was operating the vehicle with a revoked license for being a Habitual Traffic Offender, and that he received a lifetime operator’s license revocation, due to previous OUI incidents. A further check of Mr. Wurtzburger’s record showed that this was the 5th time that he had been charged with OUI, with the most recent charge occurring in 2004.

Michael Wurtzburger was held overnight at the Wareham Police Department and transported to the Wareham District Court, where he was arraigned on the charges of Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, 5th Offense, and Operating After Revocation for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol while OUI.

Chief Richard Stanley praised the efforts and actions of Officers Eric Machado and James White for their diligence in locating and arresting Mr. Wurtzburger, who was obviously a dangerous operator that placed others in a potentially harmful situation. Although officers of he Wareham Police Department are always on the lookout for impaired drivers, this arrest comes one day before the start of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative to rid drunk drivers from the roadways of Massachusetts. The Wareham Police Department is scheduled to take aggressive action during the initiative from August 15, 2012 to September 3, 2012.
