On Thursday, September 19, 2013 at approximately 5:00 pm, officers and detectives of the Wareham Police Department responded to the Mayflower Co-operative Bank at 2420 Cranberry Highway regarding a reported bank robbery. Officers were advised that a lone male, who covered his face and wore a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, fled the bank after demanding money from the teller while holding a black handgun. There were no injuries reported at the scene, and no customers were inside the bank at the time of the incident. An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the bank.
The suspect was further described as a white male, possibly in his mid to late 20’s, with light colored hair. A vehicle was observed speeding from the area at the time of the incident was described by a potential witness as a newer model silver colored 4 door Chrysler 200 sedan, which had been parked in an adjacent business parking lot.
An area search conducted by police officers, including a K-9 unit, was conducted with negative results for the suspect, or the described vehicle.
