Two Wareham Men Arrested for Possession of a Firearm

On Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at approximately 6:15 pm, officers of the Wareham Police Department responded to #7 Cannonberry Way regarding the report of an unknown suspicious male leaving the property while holding an item wrapped in a white T-shirt.  While responding to the address, Officer Paul Somers noticed the described suspect vehicle traveling north on Swifts Beach Road and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Swifts Beach Rd. and Marion Road. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, 24 year old Michael Vieira of Mashpee, MA, and a passenger later identified as 23 year old Carlton Borges of #10 Parker Drive in Wareham.

During investigation at the motor vehicle stop, Mr. Borges was found to be in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and ran from the scene when a loaded .44 cal. Smith & Wesson handgun wrapped in a white T-shirt was found under the front seat of the vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit, Officer Michael Phinney, assisted by K-9 Rolf, placed Mr. Borges in custody. Mr. Vieira never left the site of the motor vehicle stop and was placed into custody for Possession of a Firearm.

Carlton Borges, who was the male observed leaving the residence and running from the scene of the motor vehicle stop, was charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a Permit, Disorderly Person, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, and Resisting Arrest.  Both males were arraigned at the Wareham 4th District Court on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
