Family Disturbance Sends Two to the Hospital

On Sunday, August 25, 2013 at approximately 10:45 am, officers of the Wareham Police Department responded to 10 Midway St. in the Onset section of town regarding a disturbance involving neighbors and possible weapons. Upon arrival, officers located 55 year old George Maxim of #10A Midway St. injured on the ground and spoke to a female neighbor involved in the disturbance, who complained of minor injuries as a result of allegedly being assaulted by Mr. Maxim.

Investigation of the incident revealed that an argument involving residents of #10A and #10B Midway St. escalated to physical violence when George Maxim of 10A Midway St. allegedly assaulted an adult female resident of 10B during an argument, which caused the female’s boyfriend, 19 year old Zachary Lavelle of 10B Midway St. to become involved and physically assault Mr. Maxim. Upon witnessing this assault, Mr. Maxim’s 25 year old son, Scott Maxim, became involved and swung a sheathed sword toward Mr. Lavelle during the incident.

George Maxim was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, then transported by Med-Flight to a Boston area hospital regarding a possible head injury. The involved female was transported to Tobey Hospital regarding reported minor injuries sustained as a result of being pushed to the ground.

As a result of this incident, George Maxim has been charged with Assault & Battery and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (dumbbell weight). Scott Maxim has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (sword), and Zachary Lavelle has been charged with Assault & Battery. All parties will be arraigned at Wareham Fourth District Court.
