K-9’s Search for Drug in Wareham Schools.

On Friday, October 12, 2012, at approximately 9:15 am, a K-9 search for the presence of illegal drugs was conducted at Wareham High School, Wareham Middle School, and the Wareham Cooperative School. The search was initiated as a collaborative effort by the Wareham Police Department, Wareham School Department, and several K-9 Officers and their partners from various area towns to aggressively prevent illegal drugs from entering our schools.

As a result of the K-9 search, 3 indications of marijuana were detected by the K-9 units, who searched the interior areas of the schools and the surrounding parking lot areas. Two indications of the presence of illegal drugs were made Wareham High School, while one indication of illegal drugs was made at the Wareham Middle School. Although there were three indications of the presence of illegal drugs, there were no illegal drugs found on school property during the search, and no students were found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

Chief Richard Stanley commended school officials, students, and teachers of theĀ  Wareham School Department for their cooperative effort in working toward drug free schools for the children and parents of Wareham, and stressed that aggressive, cooperative measures to ensure a safe and drug free school environment will continue.
