Wareham School Bus involved in Crash

On Friday, February 03, 2012, at approximately 2:30 pm, a motor vehicle accident involving a Wareham school bus and a passenger vehicle occurred on Marion Road at Viking Drive. The school bus was struck from the rear, causing extensive front end damage to the passenger vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Neon, while the school bus sustained damage to the rear bumper area. The school bus was stopped in traffic, waiting to turn left onto Viking Drive, when it was struck by the Dodge Neon, which was traveling westbound on Marion Road (Rte. 6).

The school bus was occupied by one 17 year old male student, who was transported to Tobey Hospital by Wareham EMS, due to a complaint of neck pain. The bus driver and the operator of the Dodge Neon reported not being injured in the incident.

The operator of the passenger vehicle that struck the school bus was identified as 18 year old Drew Sylvia of East Wareham MA. Mr. Sylvia was issued a motor vehicle citation for operating within 100 feet of the rear of a school bus. The Dodge Neon operated by Mr. Sylvia was towed from the scene due to the extensive front end damage, while the school bus resumed its route.
